TEMPERED GLASS

Safety or tempered flat glass is obtained by a heating treatment, that implies heating the glass to a temperature somewhat lower than its softening point and then quenched by jets of cold air. The tempering treatment gives the glass a greater resistance to mechanical stresses (bending, shock …) and the stresses of thermal nature (temperature contrast), without altering the spectrophotometric properties of the base product.

After toughening,it becomes highly resistant to heat and shock. Tempered glass is four to five times more resistant to breakage than annealed glass.
